An Insane Clown Posse fan in Florida is suing a concert venue after she slipped and fell during the hip-hop duo’s show.
The fan is a Juggalo — the name given to ICP’s devoted fanbase, known for wearing clown makeup. She says she slipped on Faygo, the inexpensive Detroit-based soda ICP sprays over the crowd during shows. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Sarah Hastings filed the complaint in Pinellas County. It alleges staff at the outdoor venue, Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, left the stage in a “slippery and dangerous condition.”
Faygo spraying is a signature part of ICP’s live shows. It gets sprayed over the crowd throughout most concerts. The Feb. 18, 2017 show named in the lawsuit also names Knight Global Entertainment, the security company Jannus Live hired that night.
Faygo has a long history in ICP’s fan culture. At the group’s 2016 Washington D.C. show, protest signs at the National Mall read “Faygo Not Fascism.” That was a response to the FBI labeling Juggalos a “loosely organized hybrid gang.” In 2015, a Texas woman said she was hit in the face with a 2-liter bottle of the soda. ICP members Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope also run Psychopathic Records, which hosts the annual “Gathering of the Juggalos” — often called “Juggalo Woodstock.”
Court documents don’t say what injuries Hastings suffered. They do show concertgoers were invited onstage during last February’s show, which is when she fell.
Records also name Signature Security Services, which worked the venue that night. The lawsuit accuses the company of failing to “correct the dangerous condition of an overcrowded stage by helping and assisting concert goers over the barricades and onto the stage.”
Signature Security CEO Jason Nosal responded to the Tampa Bay Times this week. He said the company can’t comment on ongoing legal matters. He added: “The safety of all of the establishments we secure is paramount. All personal injury matters are investigated fully.”
