Imagine thinking you’ve stumbled upon an unexploded World War Two bomb – only for it to be, in fact, a humongous courgette.

Incredibly, that’s a situation that actually happened to a worried German man who found the item in his garden.

The 81-year-old called police to tell them he had found the bomb at his home in Bretten, near Karlsruhe.

On arrival, officers found the 40cm (nearly 16 inch) courgette.

However, in their statement, they did concede that it ‘really did look very like a bomb’.

The vegetable was a dark colour and weighed a whopping 5kg (11 pounds).
